This NaNoWriMo thing is more difficult than I thought.

21 days to go and I haven't reached 5,000 words yet. Still, looking at the forum at the NaNoWriMo site shows me that I'm not the only one. However, I don't want to end up being one of those drop outs. I really want to finish this month with a novel. I owe it to myself. December is my 40th birthday and I'd like to give myself that present.

so, having said that, what to do? There's nothing to it - I just need to do double whammy sessions, and as well as writing one chapter early in the morning and another late at night, see if I can double that to two each morning and night. That way I'd be able to reach 1,600 in the morning and do another 1,600 at night. Wow! That makes 3,200 a day. If I'm able to do that, then I'll even be able to take the odd day off to socialise!

Graham,

It's tough, but if it wasn't it wouldn't be such an achievement.
Don't get disheartened. Don't start worrying about a daily wordcount, just try and get into a routine of writing regularly, and then one day you'll be off.
What do you work on? PC/Mac? MS word with layout, or just plain text? I take it you aren't writing it first.
Just one hint - if you find it worrying to see what you are writing, then just set the page colour to white and the font colour to white - so you can't see the output. It might help you you're worrying about the quality of your output.
You should have got the second week nagging email by now, so there isn't much more for me to say.

Thanks Stompy! I've been getting encouraging comments from a good friend of yours too, Maria. I use a PC and write in word first, then transfer the stuff to Blogger.

I wouldn't like just to write straight to Blogger. If something happened (although there's no reason why it should), then I would be mortified.

You're right about not worrying about the wordcount on one hand. But, I know I do work well when I have a deadline, so it should help me to focus. It's worked tonight - I've found the energy to keep on writing.
