I will suffer tomorrow...

It's 2:40am here and I've written a lot more. I feel happier now, but it's still way behind schedule, some 7875 words. I'm starting to feel drowsy now, almost numb. and I have to get up at 6.30 to get ready to go to work tomorrow. Oh well, that's what this is all about, I suppose. If it were that easy, then people would do this every month...

Graham,
Nice to see a couple more chapters appearing. Don't beat yourself up about how much you've done, but keep looking forward to how much you are going to do.
Almost 8,000 words in less than 2 weeks! Have you ever done that much writing? Last year I gave up after 2 weeks and 12,000 words and I regret it. In fact I wrote most of those words in the first week, only succumbing to the pressure and feelings of inadequacy during the second week.
However, you are undoubtedly going to have to do some catching up. The US has a long Thanksgiving weekend holiday which is probably good for some and not so good for others. I don't know what it's like in Barca, but I assume it's enough of a party town to distract you. My experience is of Madrid, and whenever I go there I hardly get any reading done, let alone any writing.
My friend, you are going to have to pull your socks up this weekend and start exceeding your word count totals. Give up television, give up reading the Sunday papers. Give up all the things that you do for yourself (television, radio, reading, golf, salsa classes) and put that effort into writing. By reallocating your personal time, you're less likely to encroach into shared family time - which saves a lot of guilt and even engenders understanding.
Good luck
stompy.

You're absolutely right Stompy. And full of good advice too. I'm still finding it difficult to steal time. Especially as this week I've had some social obligations which have meant missing dates I've set with myself for writing. Still, I'll do what you suggest and give up all of those things like TV and...sleep?

Sleep is a luxury.
At least you are getting the words out and heading for the productive weekend.

Sleep is a luxurious necessity, unfortunately. The alarm clock went off at 5.30 today, but I couldn't face getting out of bed to write until 7.30. That meant I only had time for half an hour. Well, you certainly learn about yourself during NaNoWriMo, and about what your capabilities and priorities are...

The weekend should give me time to catch up, but Saturday morning I'm working and Saturday evening there's a gig I'm going to...Ah well, there's always inbetween, and Sunday...

I was right - Barça is that sort of town!
Going to see anyone interesting?
My weekend involves tidying the house, running, brushing up on my Spanish grammar for Mexico (where I'm going to get laughed at because of my Castellano pronounciation - I refuse to ask for 'servesa')
In between that, I've got my own writing to do - and boy am I glad I didn't commit to 1,667 words a day...

I'm off to see Adam Green, the Divine Comedy and Graham Coxon. It's the Divine Comedy I really want to see. When are you off to Mexico?

It would be Graham Coxon I'd been keenest on seeing. Neil Hannon's alright - at least he plays guitar. ;-)

I'm going to mexico on the 4th of December - which is why I'm not NaNoing this year.

Mexico, eh? Fabulous. I've always wanted to visit.

The gig was great, but we left in the middle of Graham Coxon - I just couldn't stand the noise level in his performance. I guess that means I'm getting old. The good thing about leaving though, was that I had time to write some more!

Noisy, eh? Let me tell you a story about noise...

Last year we saw two concerts in the Brixton Academy - Placebo and Turin Brakes. At the Placebo concert I took a wrong turn on the way to the bar and ended up backstage - but that's a different story...

What I was going to say, before I rudely interrupted myself, was that you would think that Placebo would be loud and they were. But with two acoustic guitars Turin Brakes were louder. I wouldn't have believed it myself if I hadn't been subjected to the waves of loud, clear chords washing over me.

Say Turin Brakes in an open air concert in Summer, and they were just as loud, so it wasn't a one off thing.

Well done with the writing and the catching up!! Just at half way now, so keep on pushing.

Thanks Stompy. I'll have to try and catch Turin Brakes. I like their music, but I've not had the opportunity to see them live.

I slipped up yesterday as I went out to dinner, got a little bit drunk, and not only did I not get up early as planned, in order to write, but I almost oversplept so much to miss work! Oops! Let's see if I can catch up tonight.
